THE CALL BOX - 2 by John W Townsend.

Harry Greenback, may have been disturbed by the call box incident on Friday but? Harry is Harry.
Well when I arrived home in Norwich that Friday, I must say, I was begining to disbelieve all that had happened back there at Liverpool Street Station, look I do love Star Trek but things like that?
Anyway I was not due back in London until Tuesday, time to push it out of my mind I thought.
It did not leave me alone, and I spent the weekend actually looking on the internet for things that were happening back then in August of 1964, and all I could find was a few bits of news, nothing about time warping phone boxes. It did prompt me to dig out my tin of old coins, from which I found I had a half crown,  three shillings, a ten shilling note, and an assortment of pennies. I actually never put them back in the tin, just left them to one side, I guess I was erring on the side of curiosity.
When Tuesday morning arrived, I popped those coins into a small plastic bag, then into my pocket, then it was off to the station and London for a buisness meeting.
At around  3 pm I was heading towards Liverpool street Station, I was due to catch the 4.30 back to Norwich. It was a curious feeling as I approached the station, in front of me was the call box I had used last Friday. "Aw come on, get it out of your head man." I said to myself and walked into the call box. I had made a note of the numerical number the guy had said that day, 'London Wall 3481'. With a laugh across my face I dialed the number, It rang and a female voice answered, "Please hold," I waited thinking I should end the call, and as I did I looked out of the call box, everything was the same. Then the voice returned, returmed. "Please stay in the call box, you have been caught in a time warp, please return the reciever to its place, and stay exactly where you are. When the phone rings please leave the call box." With that the call was ended.  "Rubbish!" I said as I stepped out of the call box, only to find I was in that different place again, Liverpool Street 1964. "Oh my god." I exclaimed, as I looked around in disbelief. As I walked away from the call box, I did not see the man walk in, or hear the telephone ring then stop. Nor did I see him disappear. I walked across to a news vendor, and delved into my pocket for the plastic bag with the old coins in. I gave the vendor a shilling for a newspaper, The Evening Standard, he gave me some change. I looked at the newspaper it was dated Tuesday September 2 1964 I laughed as I walked around and started taking pictures using my mobile phone camera. I wandered into the station and did the same there, recording everything I could, this was amazing.
Several people were curious as to what I was doing, some more than curious as to what I was using. It was then I had the most amazing experience, Ther in front of me was Noel Coward and a gentleman with him, He seemed to know I was filming or something and waved across, as he did he called out, "I know where you have been my friend, your not from these gracious parts, dont stay too long." with that he waved again and headed for his train. Which reminded me, just as he had said, 'dont stay too long.'
I dashed outside anxious to use the call box, already I was starting to worry.
There were a number of people waiting to use the phone, so I walked across to a shop and bought some biscuits. When I returned the call box was free.
I stepped inside and dialed the number London Wall 3481, The female voice voice spoke as before, only this time she said, "You are entering a Time warp number, please wait." It seemed ages and I was feeling as if I shouldnt be here, then the voice returned, "Replace the reciever, and wait for the call then you may leave." I did that and as I did two men looked across at me, pointed and ran towards the call box. As they did the phone rang , it was just as their hands touched the door that they vanished and I could see I was back in 2009, outside Liverpool Street Station.
I had been gone for nearly an hour, according to the train display boards time, so I headed towards my platform and my train home.
Had it been real or was I going crazy? Well on the journey back I looked at the shots I had taken, It was real, there it was all in front of me, even Noel Coward.
"My god, what on earth bhave I discovered?" I thought, then I wondered if I dare download the shots onto YouTube..
